On the Juice: Past and Future
And NBA bets of the week
Here’s something crazy.
I’ve now written 50,000 words across 37 articles (!!) — all about sports betting — over the past 7 months.
I’ve never missed a week.
So today, I wanted to reflect on the journey, share things I’ve heard from readers, and talk about where we’re going in the future.
We’re also at an all-time high in newsletter-bet profits, so as always, we’ll close with more NBA “Bets of the Week”.
Let’s get after it.
The Creation and Journey of “On The Juice”
This is me.
I’m a former trader and lawyer, turned entrepreneur.
Two and a half years ago, I sold the digital marketing company I was running, which gave me the space to massively ratchet up time spent on my passions — one of which was sports betting.
I spend a lot of time in Las Vegas, including last weekend, where my friends and I rode the Celtics ladder given out in this newsletter to a $5000 win.

Your author is on the right.
I’m a huge fan of the NFL, NBA, and college basketball (root for Chicago/Big Ten teams), and a pretty legit fan of college football, UFC, soccer and baseball.
When I pitched the Juice Reel founder, Ricky, on starting the “On the Juice” newsletter, my initial vision statement was the following:
We help the casual but avid sports bettor avoid losing so much they have to explain it to their girlfriend by explaining the math of betting and offering winning opportunities.
The (literal) survey says we’ve done a good job:

Of the 2600+ survey responses we’ve received, 74% rated our newsletters “Awesome” and another 22% rated “Good Stuff”.
This leaves only 4% of votes in the less-positive buckets - hell yea.
We’ve now had over 82,000 unique readers, and these days, more than 55,000 people read On the Juice each week.
Our most popular content falls into three buckets:
Deep dives with winning bettors — Our highest rated article to date, came from my interview with our top NBA player props bettor Calvin. Thousands loved it so much they read the full 4,000-word interview transcript.
Overviews on how to leverage the Juice Reel platform to win — Readers loved our pieces on line shopping and how to use SharpMush. More recently, the three-part series on navigating Juice Reel’s Elite Bettor Marketplace to win (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) was a hit.
Math-driven primers on betting basics — This category features articles on teaser bets with edge, the house edge in parlay odds, and the predatory SGP. We also covered the best way to use your “No Sweat Bet” and how ladder betting can be fun and profitable.
The full content archive is here.
If you’re a newer subscriber, or missed any of the links above, dive in and spend some time. I’m confident you’ll find something helpful and interesting.
What’s Next for On the Juice
We’ll be shifting our mission from reducing readers’ losses to producing smart bettors and consistent winners.
What that means:
Beyond sharing “Bets of the Week” and my rationale behind them, we are planning a lot more co-produced content with exceptional bettors atop our leaderboard (like sXeBets), and other sportsbook-killers who will join the platform in the coming months.
We’ll go deeper on the best bettors by sport, and by category (props vs sides vs totals vs SGP).
I’m hyped to write about betting exchanges and prediction markets — a massively growing category. I’ll tell you how I’m using techniques from my time as a trader to “be the house” on Kalshi and flip the script to play with a big edge.
Finally, we’ll share some “insider” conversations from folks who’ve worked at sportsbooks, and help you all protect your “account health” and avoid being limited once you start winning.
We’re considering diversifying into other mediums (podcast? YouTube? training courses?), so please tell me what you’d like to see.
And thank you all for supporting this initiative and being a reader!
Bets of the Week $$
Last week we went 2-0 (!!) and won 1.83 units.
As predicted, the Celtics dominated Game 3, pulling ahead by 20 points early and maintained to win by 22. They covered both the standard spread and the higher-payoff alt-line we bet (and anyone who took my advice to play longer alt-lines won as well)!
Since starting the newsletter, bets given out in this section are ahead 16.13 units, at a positive 20% ROI. A $100 bettor would be up $1613.
Based on my research, I am making the following bet this week:
Oklahoma City -1.5 (1st Half) @-120 on BetRivers for 1 unit
One of the most unusual parts of Game 5 was the first half score. The Thunder had won the first 24 minutes of this series with ease prior to Tuesday’s matchup, leading by an average of 13.5 points per game.
In Game 6, I like the Thunder to once again grab a lead against the Nuggets early, especially after nearly dropping a critical Game 5 thanks to a weak first half on Tuesday. I find the 1.5 point 1H spread more appealing than any game bets.
Please fill out the survey about today’s newsletter and let me know your thoughts!
